Part of the mission of Ride Ataxia is to “EMPOWER Ataxians by inspiring, motivating and providing opportunities to develop
physical and mental strength.” Since 2009, through the Ataxian Athlete Initiative (AAI), Ride Ataxia has been facilitating
the funding and purchase of adaptive cycling equipment for aspiring Ataxian Athletes so they may start their personal Ride Ataxia adventure.
2009: Ride Ataxia awarded the first AAI grant to Nadia Robertson.
2010: With a grant from the Christopher and Dana Reeve foundation, Ride Ataxia awarded two AAI grants to Nick Carbone and Jennifer Deneau.
2011: With financial collaboration from The FA Project, Catrike, Anna Maria Oyster Bar, UVA Sun Systems, and The Melting Pot,
Ride Ataxia awarded 4 AAI grants to Tom Trovinger, Patrick Cogan, Mary Vida, and Bill Ramsey.
2012: With financial collaboration from The FA Project, Catrike, UVA Sun Systems, and The Melting Pot, Ride Ataxia awarded 7 AAI
grants to Crystal Millering, Hamid Mehrizi, Nicole Kramer, Justin Hernandez, Lauren Williams, Mary Dieteman, and Tricia Herman-Maul
