Routes

10 and 25 mile options The American River bike trail provides a safe, inviting, scenic atmosphere with rolling hills for a family ride along the river. Following the ride, all single day participants are encouraged to make their way to the Nevada County Fairgrounds http://www.nevadacountyfair.com for dinner with the team provided by Outback Steakhouse. If you are a single day rider and would like to come to the fairgrounds for dinner, you may sign up aaaand pay for dinner during the registration process.

To Grass Valley The route will start in Folsom, CA at the Negro Bar State Park and will climb a total of 7,000 ft over 100 miles in two days to Grass Valley, CA and back. With a physically challenging ride in the name of research, this route captures the feeling of the original Ride Ataxia.  It will be an intermediate to experienced level trek with many challenging climbs and is not recommended for beginners. This ride will be well staffed by volunteer SAG crews allowing participants to take on this demanding ride along the scenic foothills.

The Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA)

is a national, public, 501(c)(3), non-profit, tax-exempt organization dedicated to the pursuit of scientific research leading to treatments and a cure for Friedreich's ataxia. FARA's Mission is to marshal and focus the resources and relationships needed to cure FA by raising funds for research, promoting public awareness, and aligning scientists, patients, clinicians, government agencies, pharmaceutical companies and other organizations dedicated to curing FA and related diseases.

Food

Rest stops are sponsored by UC Davis University Dining Services and will provide generous portions of everything you will need to keep you going no matter which route you choose. You will likely consume more calories than you burn on this ride.  Post ride food will be catered by Outback Steakhouse http://www.outback.com on the first day.

Overnight Accommodations

The route on day one will finish at the Nevada County Fairgrounds on the evening of May 15. The Fairgrounds are centrally located in the heart of Nevada County, near the historic towns of Grass Valley and Nevada City. Ride Ataxia has reserved the entire tent camping area for our event. The Fairgrounds camping facilities are nestled among tall pine trees, providing a serene setting and encouraging a safe camping experience. 

Bring your tent and all other overnight gear to the start line on May 15. We will make sure your stuff makes it safely to the fairgrounds and is accessible to you when you get there. Volunteers will be on hand to assist with any issues at the campground.

If you have an RV, there are a limited number of RV sites, some with full hookups ($28) and some with water only ($22).  You may reserve and pay for your RV site during the online registration process.
Hotel accommodations will not be provided on this ride. Hotel reservations are to be made by the participants at their discretion. Please keep in mind that the Tour of California (http://www.amgentourofcalifornia.com) will begin on the 16th in Nevada City, and there will be limited room availability.

Start/Finish Line: Negro Bar State Park
From the West:
Take US-50 East toward Placerville; take Exit 23 for Folsom Blvd.; turn left onto Folsom Blvd.. Drive approximately 3.5 miles to Greenback Ln.; turn left onto Greenback Ln. Negro Bar State Park is now on your left. Take the first left turn into the park.
From the East:
Take US-50 West toward Sacramento; take Exit 23 for Folsom Blvd.; turn left onto Folsom Blvd.. Drive approximately 3.5 miles to Greenback Ln.; turn left onto Greenback Ln. Negro Bar State Park is now on your left. Take the first left turn into the park.
From the North:
Take US80 West toward Sacramento; take Exit 98 for Elkhorn Blvd./ Greenback Ln.; turn left onto Greenback Ln. and drive for approximately 8 miles to Negro Bar State Park on your right. Take the first right turn into the park. intersection and turn at the next left turn opportunity.
From the South:
Take US5 or CA99 North toward Sacramento to US50 then go East on US50. Follow the “FROM THE WEST” directions.
From Auburn:
Take Auburn Folsom Road toward Folsom; Turn right at Greenback Ln. Negro Bar State Park is now on your left. Take the first left turn into the park.
Identify yourself as part of the Ride Ataxia event to the person at the entrance kiosk
